Welsh Highland Railway Snowdonia National Park

The Welsh Highland Railway is a popular visitor attraction that runs in the north from the town of Caernarfon towards the heart of Snowdonia and in the south from Porthmadog.

Currently the two links are not connected but work is underway to connect them which should be completed in 2009.

In the north the journey starts from Caernarfon and is located close to Caernarfon Castle. All day parking is available in the Castle car park on the banks of the River Seiont.

From there you take a 12 mile journey towards Snowdon passing through the beautiful countryside of western Snowdonia towards the village of Rhyd Ddu.

Along the way you pass through the villages of Bontnewydd, Waunfawr, and Plas y Nant. There is plenty of things to do along the way from country walks to pubs and tea rooms.

The journey takes approximately one hour each way.

Tariff

The Caernarfon journey costs £17.50 for an all day return. All children under 3 travel for free. One child over 3 travels free with each adult ticket purchased.

The Portmadog journey costs £15.00 for a family ticket. Individual tickets are available for Adults £5.50, Children over 5 £3.00, and Seniors £4.50. Children under 5 travel for free.
