The Royal Sportsman Hotel is located on the High Street in the town of Porthmadog and is the only 3 star rated hotel in the town.
Porthmadog is one of the larger towns in in Gwynedd and is situated close to the Snowdonia National Park and Llyn Peninsula. The town's most famous attraction is the Ffestiniog Railway which runs from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog. In recent times Porthmadog has become the southern terminus for the Welsh Highland Railway which is due to link with the northern section in 2009 providing a continous rail journey all the way to Caernarfon.
The Royal Sportsman Hotel was originally built in 1862 during the height of the slate mining industry that operated from the mountains of Snowdonia and used Porthmadog as one of its ports for shipping slate throughout the world.
